About the Department
The Department of Library and Information Sciences offers Masters in Library and Information Science (M.Lib.I.Sc) and Ph.D programmes with the aim of developing efficient information and knowledge managers.
Vision
- Developing skills required for management of Data, Information & Knowledge in Libraries and Information Centres, by applying the principles of librarianship and professional ethics.
- Developing and enhancing skill-sets in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) required for the Information and Knowledge Management processes.
Mission
- To work on local and global thrust areas in the field of Library and Information Science.
- To train and equip students with the knowledge, skills and values required to work in Information and Knowledge Centres.

1. Digital Library and Automation Lab
A ‘Digital Library & Automation Laboratory’ has been planned to impart the specialized ICT skills to M. Lib. I. Sc. students & PhD Scholars. M. Lib. I. Sc. & PhD programmes offered by our department have a curriculum designed at par with reputed information schools and contemporary needs of ‘Library & Information Sciences’.
2. Departmental Library and Research Lab
A Departmental Library and Research Lab facility for the department's scholars is planned. Research in various areas of Library automation and digitization is being carried out by the research scholars and therefore a well equipped lab for the scholars and faculty members of the department is under development.
