13th National Voters Day (NVD)
The Central University of Punjab celebrated 13th National Voters Day (NVD) on the theme of Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure. This day is celebrated to commemorate the establishment of the Election Commission of India. The programme was held under the guidance of Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Punjab.
To mark this occasion, CUPB officials, faculty and staff members assembled at Seminar Hall under the leadership of Prof. B.P. Garg, Controller of Examinations and Registrar (O), to take the Voter’s Day Pledge.
Following the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the programme commenced with the special screening of ECI song- “Main Bharat Hoon- Hum Bharat Ke Matdata Hain” produced by Election Commission of India. The song brings forth the power of vote and celebrates the spirit of inclusive, accessible, ethical, participative and festive elections in the largest and most vibrant democracy of the world.
After this, Prof. B.P. Garg, the Registrar, administered the Voter’s Day Pledge to participants in Punjabi, Hindi and English. He mentioned that the main purpose of the NVD celebration is to create electoral awareness amongst citizens and encourage them to participate in the electoral process. Prof. Garg applauded the role of the Election Commission of India in conducting free and fair elections and the importance of voting in a democratic nation-state. As many as 100 teaching and non-teaching employees participated in this programme.
