About the Department

The Department of Environmental Science and Technology is one among the pioneer departments of the university established with the inception of the University in 2009. It is DST-FiST supported department since 2017. The mission of the department is human resource development through excellence in  teaching and research. The department is currently offering Masters and Doctoral programmes in Environmental Science and Technology. The programmes are designed to provide best academic, research and industrial training to enhance the skills and to enable the students to compete for the job opportunities.

The inter- and trans- disciplinary research are the core strength of the department to address local to global issues and focus on sustainable solutions for conserving the environment and human health. The department has highly experienced, motivated faculty trained at national and international universities. The department has been recognised as the best department of the university in the Year 2020 and four faculty members have received the best teacher and research award of the University till date. The department has state-of-the-art research laboratories equipped with high end instruments like MPAES, IC, TOC, TGA/DTA, Anodic Striping Voltameter, CAQMS etc. The alumni of the department are well placed in industries, national (IIT, IISER, CSIR Labs, NIT and other top rated universities) and international (USA, UK, Canada, Germany, Australia) organisations. The department has academic & research collaborations and MoU’s with various Govt. and Non Govt. organisations to embark in the frontier areas of scientific and technological challenges. The department offers consultancy services to industries and other organisations. The department strives to render community outreach through capacity building and environmental awareness programmes. 

The thrust areas of research include water pollution and waste water management, development of bioherbicides, supramolecular and environmental chemistry, nanotechnology, air pollution, geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing, bioenergy/ green technology, membrane technologies and membrane bioreactor (MBR), nutrient removal, microbial fuel cells, solid waste management, air pollution, soil pollution for pesticides and heavy metals and bioremediation (including phytoremediation and rhizoremediation).

To generate knowledge for achieving sustainable through excellence in education and research, while seeking solutions to regional environmental problems and sustainability as a holistic approach integrating social, cultural and environmental issues.

Mission:

to impart knowledge systems and its management to participate in the nation's onward journey towards skill based sustainable development.
