About the Department

Previously known as 'Centre for Environmental Law' started its working in 2011. In 2015, it has been renamed as Centre for Law under the School of Legal Studies and Governance was established with an objective to impart qualitiative legal education offering specialization in Environmental Law, Human Rights and Corporate Law to keep pace with needs of society. 

Vision

The SLS envisions to build the capacity of the youth and stakeholders for proactive contribution in realizing the goal of Peace, Justice and Strong Institution as encapsulated by humanity in SDG 16 and welfare of the humanity (Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah). 

Mission

  • Imbibing the learners with the skills to understand, interpret and apply law in inter-disciplinary contexts and develop a holistic approach for constructive change in society.
  • To emerge as a centre of excellence for Indianization of Legal System keeping pace with global demands as envisioned in National Education Policy.

Legal Aid Centre


In pursuance of the Sustainable Development Goals 16, Peace Justice and Strong Institutions and National Education Policy to strive for experiential learning, the Central University of Punjab, Ghudda has a Legal Aid Centre . Being a bridge between the stakeholders and Legal Services Authority, the Legal Aid Centre envisions:

  1. To contribute in making justice accessible at the ground level;
  2. To create constitutional and legal literacy among the stakeholders;
  3. To infuse the spirit of responsibility for contribution in strengthening the implementation of Free Legal Aid Mechanism;
  4. To facilitate with the help of Legal Services Authority for pre-mediation and conciliation;
  5. To provide opportunities to the students for action oriented research;

Module:
Legal Aid Centre: A Legal Aid Centre has been established at the Main Gate of the University. It was inaugurated by Sh. Kaushal Kishore, Hon’ble Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs in the gracious presence of Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Hon’ble Member Parliament and Prof. Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari, Hon’ble Vice-chancellor and other dignitaries on 24th June 2022. A roster has been prepared and implemented for the students of Department of Law whereas the students on duty remain present every day (except Sunday) from 4.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. at the Legal Aid Centre. The function of the Legal Aid Centre is to act as a bridge between the needy and interested stakeholders, and the District Legal Services Authority. The panel lawyers of the District Legal Services Authority remain in touch with the students and attend the queries and issues raised by the stakeholders and extend the consultancy free of charge.
Legal Literacy: In pursuance of the SDG 16 and the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister to make justice accessible to the last person standing in the queue, the Legal Aid Centre organizes literacy camps in the neighbourhood area covering educational institutions, social clubs etc. It also contribute in spreading awareness about the different schemes launched by the Ministry of Law and Justice and other Ministries for sensitization among the general masses, such as Telelaw, Nyayabandhu, Pro bono etc.
